i used to be a disco free styler, competing in denmark and the nordic countries. during my teenage years i explored many different genres of dance, such as jazz, ballet, hip hop, tap, polynesian belly dance and ballroom. i also performed in tv shows, the danish Wheel of Fortune, Dans På Tværs, Go'Morgen Danmark, among others, toured with a musical for children, Bølle Bob, and a danish duet, Sonny&Jeanne, and performed in a feature film called Mona's Verden.
but... i wanted something else, so i moved to new york in 2002.
i enrolled in a full-time program at the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, where my knowlegde of the disco-use-of-torso came in handy. while studying at Graham i performed with Apus Dance Group, Robert Lin Pemberton, Emancia Dance Company, RedWall Dance Theatre and as a guest with the Martha Graham Ensemble. i also collaborated with other artists, i+e architecture, Daniel Mensch, Jessica Lang and Kristina Skovby.
for my final year at Graham my focus was on choreography and i decided that my graduation project should be a site-specific piece in the long hallway of the building i lived in. quickly i realized that the hallway was too narrow for both an audience and performers, so i decided to make a film. the film was called NUDE and starred all of my friends from Graham. i had no clue of what i was doing but it opened up a whole new world, full of possibilities for choreography and film. so i made another one, Poem, which was later screened at festivals and venues in many different countries.
in 2008 i moved back to my home country, denmark. since i came back, i have danced for Camilla Duus, Helle Fuglsang and Søs Fredie Pedersen. i have continued to work with video and was lucky to get a grant from the Filmworkshop/Danish Film Instute in 2009. i made Kild Mig Ihjel, which premiered in december 2010.
i am an active member of ScreenMoves - a platform for dance film in denmark, put together by Dansehallerne and three independent artists. i facilitate ScreenMoves Lab, which is a forum for dance filmmakers and -enthusiasts to share unfinished works for feedback and ideas, and an attempt to bring the danish dance film community together to establish the genre within the world of dance, film and art.
currently i am working as a producer for Jeannette Ginslov on a short film called Autopsy | Eros; directing a docu-poem for the dance/rock group Wego and researching for my next film, Satellit. i teach dance at Fredie Pedersen's dance school and International Dance Academy, freelance as a performer, work with ScreenMoves and sell tickets at a movie theater.
